Artist Statement: Of the second wave of paintings inspired by Roman antiquity, this was the first on my list to tackle. I love how the first century artists of Pompeii played with the depth of foliage in their garden pieces. This guy was a sumptuous joy to play with as I focused on capturing the depth and textures of a juniper tree in light of the first century Roman style.
