Kim Fonder loves texture and touch. Her paintings and furniture reflect her infatuation with these two characteristics. From the materials Fonder selects, to the way she crafts each piece; these two attributes remain her focus. She seeks to honor Leonardo Da Vinci’s words, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
Fonder generally paints for four to five hour stretches in the morning (her favorite time, when she “hasn’t had the experiences of the day yet – the world is fresh”) using combinations of hemp, silk, linen, organic pigments and Venetian plaster to evoke the calmness and airiness of the natural world. As she says, “Mother Nature makes color better than man ever can...and our eyes instinctively know it.”
