Pair of Leather and Cane Armchairs, France c. 1940 in Namay Samay

$5,200.00

A handsome pair of French armchairs from around 1940, built on faux-bamboo turned frames with a warm gilded finish and woven cane backs. Odette liked the mix of texture and structure here — the openwork cane keeps them light, while the turned frames and gently splayed, reeded feet give them real presence. The gilding has softened and rubbed back at the high points, which is exactly how it should look.

Newly upholstered on the seats and back pads in Namay Samay — a small-scale block print, cream ground with a mauve and taupe ogee lattice and a fine floret at each junction, finished with a green and ivory striped welt.

Sold as a pair. Comfortable, usable and visually interesting — the kind of chairs that anchor a room while still feeling relaxed.
