Odette Collective
A French abstract gouache from around 1950, worked in cool sage and moss greens over a warm ivory ground, with a loose black brush line drawing stylized figures and foliage across the composition. Odette liked the confidence of the drawing — the paint is laid in broad, watery washes and the line runs over the top of it freely, so the whole thing reads as quick and sure rather than laboured. The green-and-cream palette is unusually soft for a mid-century abstract and makes it easy to live with, whether hung alone above a chest or worked into a mixed grouping. Newly framed in a slim coal-black moulding with the original glass retained. Age-appropriate wear to the sheet.
