Odette Collective
A handsome French set from around 1970 — a pair of side chairs and a matching footstool — in exactly the neoclassical iron Odette can't resist. Each piece is built on a curule X-frame of blackened wrought iron, curving down to little brass ball feet, with brass ball finials and a central brass rosette dressing the frame. The seats (and the chair backs) are freshly upholstered in a rich brown sugar mohair, deep and velvety against the dark, gently patinated metal. The set has a Maison Jansen-style elegance — architectural and a touch grand, but comfortable and easy to live with. Use the chairs flanking a console or at a writing table and the stool as a footrest or extra perch, together or apart. Sculptural, soulful, and ready to anchor a room.
