A tall, handsome Victorian carved armchair, the kind of single statement seat Odette loves to drop into a room for a little gravitas. The walnut frame is darkened to a deep, rich brown and beautifully worked — boldly scrolled, carved arms, carved cabriole legs ending in scrolled feet, and a carved front stretcher in the grand Baroque-revival manner. The high back gives it real presence. It's been freshly upholstered in a soft green-and-cream stripe that lightens all that serious carving and keeps it feeling current. Use it as an accent chair beside a fireplace, at the head of a table, at a desk, or as a striking single in an entry. Stately, soulful, and full of nineteenth-century character.
